The accession includes correspondence, memoranda, research notes, photographs and other material documenting Fox's research, teaching and other activities at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The collection consists mainly of Fox's correspondence, research notes and other material concerning his research on cartenoids, as well as biographical material and a typescript of Fox's autobiography: Again the scene. The accession includes files on other topics: the controversy surrounding the appointment of Roger Revelle as Director of Scripps in 1948 and 1950; the University of California loyalty oath controversy of 1950; and material received by Fox from the Scripps Office of the Director from 1954 to 1960 which documents the creation of the University of California, San Diego; as well as folders documenting Fox's long association with the San Diego Zoological Society.
